lyrics

A tourniquet of ribbons wrapped around a tree
flows like snakes upon the ground.
With the etiquette of children we spit into the sea
and watch it form into a cloud.
We roam like pilgrims upon a holy land,
a ritual of mourning and loss,
as the wind sings a hymn in memory of a god
who dies every year upon a cross.

The vagueness in our eyes, the silence on our tongues
betray the longing that we feel.
The droning of our prayers is floating through the air
at the start of every meal.
Nietzsche once said that power is the goal
and pity is the enemy of life.
But we live outside the bounds of probability
trying to cut water with a knife.

We roam like exiles upon a foreign land
nostalgic for the unexamined life.
Until the promise of salvation is fulfilled
we try to cut water with a knife.

Early on, John’s music was inspired by artists such as The Kinks, David Bowie and Brian Eno. His songs gravitate towards the eclectic, philosophical and the absurd. ... more
